February 28, 2026 — In an unprecedented moment for American political history, former U.S. President Bill Clinton testified behind closed doors on Friday before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee, forcefully denying any knowledge of or involvement in the criminal enterprise orchestrated by the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The deposition, held near the Clintons' residence in Chappaqua, New York, marks the latest development in a sprawling and highly partisan congressional inquiry into Epstein's extensive network of elite connections. Clinton's testimony comes just one day after his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, faced the same Republican-led panel in a session that highlighted the deep political fractures surrounding the investigation.

Unsealed Epstein Files Reignite Public Scrutiny

The renewed focus on Bill Clinton stems from the recent release of millions of pages of Justice Department records. In late 2025, a rare bipartisan effort led to the passage of the "Epstein Files Transparency Act," which mandated the disclosure of unclassified investigative materials, flight logs, emails, and photographs related to Epstein and his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.

The unsealed Epstein files revealed heavily curated, yet significant, documentation of the financier's elite social circles. Among the records were photographs of Bill Clinton with Epstein and other celebrities, as well as flight logs indicating that the former president traveled on Epstein’s private jet at least 16 times between 2002 and 2003.

Despite the extensive documentation of their association, law enforcement has never accused Bill Clinton of any criminal misconduct related to Epstein. In his prepared opening statement to the committee, Clinton reiterated the defense he has maintained for years.

"I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didn’t do. I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong," Clinton stated. A spokesperson for the former president emphasized that the flights were taken in connection with humanitarian work for the Clinton Foundation and that Clinton had severed all ties with the financier long before Epstein's 2019 arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.

Inside the House Oversight Committee Investigation

The House Oversight Committee, chaired by Republican Representative James Comer, has spent months pursuing the Clintons' testimonies. Initially resisting the subpoenas, the Clintons ultimately agreed to appear for closed-door depositions after the committee threatened to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings.

For Republicans, the depositions represent a push for ultimate transparency. Lawmakers argue that given Epstein’s expansive reach and the monumental failures of the justice system to hold him fully accountable before his 2019 death in federal custody, any high-profile figure associated with him must be heavily scrutinized.

"Nobody should be above the law. If you're served with a valid subpoena, you should comply," stated Jennifer Plotkin, an attorney representing numerous Epstein survivors, echoing a sentiment shared by victims who simply want to understand the full scope of Epstein's political protection.

Hillary Clinton Faces Bizarre Conspiracy Questions

The partisan nature of the inquiry was thrust into the spotlight during Hillary Clinton's deposition on Thursday, February 26. Following her seven-hour testimony, the former Secretary of State confirmed to reporters that she answered every question asked of her, maintaining that she had never met Jeffrey Epstein and only knew Ghislaine Maxwell casually as an acquaintance.

However, the proceedings took an unexpected turn. According to Clinton, rather than focusing entirely on the logistics of the Epstein trafficking network, some Republican committee members used the time to question her about UFOs and "Pizzagate"—a long-debunked and baseless internet conspiracy theory from 2016. Democrats were quick to point to these questions as evidence that the committee's true goal was political theater rather than fact-finding or justice for survivors.

A Partisan Battle Over Transparency and Accountability

While the stated goal of the hearings is to uncover the extent of Epstein's influence, the political motivations of the investigation remain a subject of intense debate. Democrats have vehemently criticized the Republican-led probe as a "one-sided political hit job."

Critics point to a glaring omission in the committee's witness list: President Donald Trump. Trump’s name also appears extensively throughout the unsealed Epstein files, with records confirming he socialized with the financier in the 1990s and early 2000s and flew on his aircraft on several occasions.

"President Clinton’s presence here today under oath highlights the Donald Trump-sized gaping hole in Chairman Comer’s investigation," remarked Democratic Representative James Walkinshaw. Democratic lawmakers are currently pushing the Justice Department to release additional withheld records that may contain further information regarding Trump's associations with Epstein, further escalating the partisan warfare surrounding the transparency act.

Outlook and Ongoing Implications

The congressional depositions of Bill and Hillary Clinton are unlikely to be the final chapter in the Jeffrey Epstein saga. As the House Oversight Committee reviews the testimonies and debates releasing the video footage to the public, the political fallout continues to simmer.

For the survivors of Epstein's abuse, the ongoing political spectacle is a double-edged sword. While the unsealing of the Epstein files and the compelling of high-level testimony represent a form of institutional accountability, the weaponization of the tragedy for partisan gain threatens to overshadow the actual crimes committed.

Looking ahead, the precedent set by forcing a former U.S. president to testify under subpoena regarding a private citizen's criminal enterprise will likely lower the threshold for future congressional investigations. As both major U.S. political parties continue to wield the Epstein files against one another, the quest for a definitive, unbiased accounting of Epstein's global trafficking network remains elusive.
